We did it! Our Gold Coast Knights secured an unprecedented NPL Queensland treble on Sunday evening, September 17, 2023.

Max Brown scored the winning goal in the 29th minute to defeat Moreton Bay 1-0 in the NPL Men’s Championship Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.

It was the third trophy this season for Gold Coast Knights, after winning the season premiership title and the inaugural Kappa Pro Series.

Since becoming head coach in 2021, Scott McDonald’s squad has won three pieces of league silverware.

The remarkable feat was not lost on McDonald, who before the match said: “We are here to win everything that’s on offer for us this season, and all footballers want that League title.

“We always want more, and we want to create even more history – we want to do a treble.”

When the treble was achieved, Gold Coast Knights Captain Austin Ludwik couldn’t have been prouder of the club he’s played with since May 2021.

“The winning mentality within our group is really strong, and Scott instils that in all of us,” he said.

“Our club has a rich Croatian heritage, and there is a very proud community and culture here.

“Our team culture is that we’re a group of friends, and teammates even more so, who are willing to push ourselves and each other to play our best.”

McDonald said this season presented some of the biggest moments in some of the players’ careers, and he congratulated them on their dedication.

“It’s important we remember the roots of our football club, where it has come from, and build our history at the same time,” he said.

“You have to be committed and work hard to be part of this football club, and with that comes a lot of respect and accountability.

“What that builds, most importantly, is a trust factor within our playing group, and that’s what has built our success this season.”

Other Gold Coast Knights FC teams have also enjoyed a successful 2023 season. The Senior Women’s team achieved unprecedented success, winning all 21 games of the FQPL3 season to become 2023 Premiers and earned a promotion into Football Queensland’s Premier League 1 (FQP1).

The Knights FC became the NPL Under 23 Men’s Premiership Winners and Championship Winners too.
